James is a biblical male-given name in (usually) the English language.

The name James is of Latin (Ancient Roman) origin, derived from "lacomus". It could also come from Hebrew "ya-aqov" (cognate to Jacob). This was the name of two apostles in the Testament.

In the early 1990s, it was the most common male-given name in the United States.
